Essosinam Ward is a clinical psychology doctoral student at Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, Adelphi University. She received her Bachelors degree in Sociology at Vassar College and went on to become active in the racial justice movement as an organizer in the Hudson Valley. She became interested in psychology through this work and hopes to bring a social justice lens to her clinical work and research. Essosinam recently helped lead an organizing effort that resulted in the successful institutionalization of a yearly anti-oppression training for clinicians at Derner. Her research seeks to better understand the critical connections between trauma, race and colonialism. Clinically, Essosinam is interested in community mental health and has interned on the ACT Team at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and at Callen Lorde Community Health Center, an LGBTQ clinic in Manhattan.
